02.07.2013

From 21st of June 2013 the identity card is the only sufficient document for travelling to some other countries out of EU or Schengen area, i.e. the passport is not necessary for this purpose.

The amendment to Act No. 329/1999 Coll., about travel documents, allows traveling with identity card to the countries out of EU which recognize the identity card as a travel document. This year the following countries recognized the identity card as a travel document: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Macedonia, Serbia and Croatia (Croatia is a new member of EU from 1st of July 2013). It is possible to travel with all types of identity cards by land as well as by air means of transport.
