The European Succession Regulation

The European Parliament and the Council have adopted a new regulation No. 650/2012 of 04.07.2012 on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement of decisions and acceptance and enforcement of authentic instruments in matters of succession and on the creation of a European Certificate of Succession. The regulation is to be used if a person died after 17.08.2015..

The EU Succession Regulation refers to the succession of property of deceased persons where an international element is present. The aim of this regulation is to enable the individuals to manage their inheritance more effectively and quickly.

For this purpose, a European Certificate of Succession was also introduced.

The regulation does not apply to Great Britain, Ireland and Denmark.
