Driver attention! New duty to adapt the driving speed in the municipality regardless of placing of traffic signs

18.06.2013

One of the basic duties of the drivers according to the Act of Road Traffic is to observe the speed limit on the various types of roads. There is a maximum speed limit of 50 km/hour in the municipality.

The above mentioned Act defines the municipality as a built-up area, whose boundary is demarcated by appropriate traffic signs on the road. As soon as you as a driver pass by traffic sign with a name of the municipality by entering such a municipality, you are obliged to adapt the speed limit as mentioned above. The Supreme Administrative Court had issued a new revolutionary decision, under which the driver is obliged to adapt his speed and slow it down by entering a municipality even though there is not any traffic sign with the name of the municipality, on such a municipality road. The driver should recognize from the circumstances such as the density of the surrounding house building or the surrounding landscape.
