Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 of the European Parliament and Council

07.05.2019

The Regulation (EU) 2016/1191 of the European Parliament and council of 06 July 2016 came into force on February 16, 2019, and the difficulties related to the provision of the verification of certain public documents issued by EU authorities were removed.

The regulation gives us the exemption of certain public documents and their certified copies from all forms of legalization or similar formalities, including apostille. In addition, EU member State authorities will not be entitled to ask the applicant to translate the public document into their official language if the public document will be provided with a multilingual form, which is also introduced by the regulation.

The regulation applies in particular to documents issued by courts, authorities, notaries or diplomatic representatives of EU Member States. From 16.02.2019 all public documents relating to birth, death, name, marriage, divorce, registered partnership, dissolution of registered partnership, parenthood, adoption, nationality, absence of a criminal record of natural persons are exempted from legalization and similar formalities.
